“Lukoil” intends to abandon its franchising program because its franchisees start selling low-grade petrol purchased from unknown sources. The last franchising contracts expired by mid 2007 and from that moment over 30 petrol stations in Moscow and Moscow Region have lost their rights to use Lukoil trademark, still they continue using it illegally. In January 2008 the Moscow Region Arbitration (Commercial) Court banned Potentsial, former “Lukoil” franchisee, from using “Lukoil” trademark. Some of the pirates introduce minor changes into “Lukoil” trademark, in particular, in some Russian regions there are several stations operating under the trademarks Likoil, Luckoil.
In future “Lukoil” is going to put law on all the companies, which use the brand illegally.
