Dr.Mikhail Gorodissky 

Dr.Mikhail Gorodissky was one of the most competent and eminent IP lawyers both in Russia and abroad. Dr.Gorodissky was called a Maitre of the Russian IP law. His name was widely known not only among IP specialists, but also in business, scientific, cultural circles, and among state officials both in Russia and many other countries.

Nearly fifty years of his professional activity Dr.Mikhail Gorodissky devoted to legal regulation of intellectual property. He was among those who greatly contributed to the development of Russian IP legislation and its practice, joining our country to the Paris Convention, and setting up institution of Russian Patent Attorneys. Dr.Mikhail Gorodissky was a member of Government Commissions and Working Groups of the Russian Parliament to prepare legal acts on IP protection. Being an IP expert in a number of official delegations Dr. Gorodissky paid visits to many foreign countries.

Dr. Gorodissky was the author of over 160 publications, articles, books on intellectual property and licensing. One of his best known books, - "Licenses in Foreign Trade of the USSR", (Moscow, 1971) - is still a "bible" for Russian licensing professionals. Mikhail was a bright and gifted speaker. He made brilliant presentations at different IP congresses, conferences and seminars worldwide. Dr. Gorodissky was a versatile person of encyclopaedic knowledge, he spoke English and Japanese, was keen on literature, music, history, so he could give highly professional consultations to his clients, many of whom became his friends.

After graduating from the Legal Faculty of the Institute of Foreign Trade in 1951, Mr. Gorodissky joined the USSR Ministry of Foreign Trade as a lawyer. With his assistance one of the first international licensing agreements in the Soviet Union was concluded with Burmeister, Denmark.

Beginning from 1963 and during further 35 years Dr.Gorodissky headed a major firm of Patent and Trademark Attorneys at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where many of our staff worked with him. In that period Dr. Gorodissky was also the Arbiter of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the CCI, and a member of Board of Directors of the CCI.

From 1998 to 2002 Mikhail Gorodissky was President and Senior Partner of our firm, which bears his name, GORODISSKY&PARTNERS.

Dr.Gorodissky was one of the first Russian Patent and Trademark Attorneys (Reg. no. 7) and Eurasian Patent Attorneys (Reg. no. 1).

Within a couple of decades Dr.Gorodissky was President of the Russian National AIPPI Group and a member of AIPPI Executive Committee, as well as a Board Member of Russian Patent Attorneys Association, INTA, AIPLA and LESI.

Dr.Gorodissky's contribution in development of the Russian IP legislation and practice was honored with many Government rewards.
