The Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) is acceding to the Patent Law Treaty (PLT)
3 February 2026The Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) is acceding to the Patent Law Treaty (PLT), which was concluded in Geneva in 2000. The corresponding notification has been published on the WIPO website.
The Treaty regulates formal requirements that patent offices may apply regarding applications for inventions, as well as certain issues related to the examination procedure of such applications and challenging patents granted under them.
Russia acceded to PLT in 2009. Among the members of EAPO, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan are also parties to the PLT. Tajikistan and Azerbaijan have not yet joined the PLT.
With respect to the Eurasian Patent Organization, the Treaty will enter into force on March 17, 2026.
