The law on customs regulation has been amended regarding inclusion of geographical indications in the Customs register

5 December 2022

The new law No 488-ФЗ dated December 05, 2022 provides that geographical indications may be included in the customs register. Before that, only trademarks, appellations of origin, copyrights and neighboring rights could be included in the register. The GI owner will be notified by the customs if allegedly counterfeit goods are declared at the customs.

The law comes into force on March 6, 2023.
