Conference “Art Law 2026: Art, Marketing and Intellectual Property”, Nizhny Novgorod

The conference “ART LAW 2026: Art, Marketing and Intellectual Property” was successfully held as part of the international art exhibition “ArtWorld 2026” in Nizhny Novgorod.
Irina Zhigalova, Partner, Regional Director (Gorodissky & Partners, Nizhny Novgorod) spoke about traditional knowledge in the context of protecting folk art industries through intellectual property objects. Venera Kanukova, Head of Administrative-Information Department (Gorodissky & Partners, Moscow) discussed specifics of using visual works in advertising and marketing activities.
A special interest was drawn by the international round table «Art in the Era of Neural Networks Development» with participation of Matteo Piccinali, Alberto Contini and Andrea Polini from “Zaglio-Orizio-Braga E Associati Studio Legale”, Italy and Natalia Nikolaeva, Partner, Regional Director (Gorodissky & Partners, Novosibirsk). Natalia Nikolaeva and Matteo Piccinali addressed issues concerning protection of AI-generated artwork. Matteo provided insights into recent changes in European legislation that included provisions recognizing copyright on works created using artificial intelligence. Natalia gave an overview of approaches developed in American jurisdiction, which largely align both with European and Russian practices. The main criterion for recognition of a work protected by copyright is the presence of creative input from the author.
