Conference ‘XXI Century - Challenges in Intellectual Property Law’

On 4 June, St.Petersburg hosted a successful conference ‘XXI Century - Challenges in Intellectual Property Law’ dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the of Gorodissky & Partners branch in St.Petersburg.
The conference brought together representatives of leading legal, commercial & industrial companies to discuss the practical issues of intellectual property protection today.
The conference was opened by Valery Medvedev, Managing Partner, Russian and Eurasian Patent (Gorodissky & Partners, Moscow). He spoke about innovations and IP protection importance in modern economic model. Victor Stankovsky, Partner, Russian and Eurasian Patent Attorney, Regional Director, (Gorodissky & Partners, St. Petersburg) dipped the audience in 25 year story of transformation of Russian patent law and its impact on the current practice.
The firm's leading patent attorneys and lawyers shared their experience of topical issues, including the emerging practice of seizing the trademarks of foreign companies after they withdraw from the Russian market. They also spoke about the similarities and fundamental differences between trademarks and designs, and drew attention to the advantages of franchising models and the necessity of data protection compliance introduction according to the recently introduced changes to legislation.
The conference included a roundtable discussion entitled 'Digital technologies and IT solutions as protectable results of intellectual activity', during which the participants discussed the practice of patenting IT inventions, registering a computer interface as a design and registering software trademarks. They also discussed the problems and risks associated with identifying, consolidating and distributing rights between IT specialists, investors and employers, as well as the procedure for registering software in Russia.
Participants had an opportunity to learn about the bespoke IP software solutions created by Gorodissky & Partners: Gorodissky Patadmin, Gorodissky IP Mobile and Gorodissky IP Security. These tools are designed to facilitate the management of intellectual property rights, control renewal proceedings and secure IP rights on the internet.
The conference was attended by more than 70 specialists.
